‘Unheimlich: A German word, used to describe the uncanny or weird.’
As part of my final project in the 3rd year of my BA in Photography, I based my study around the ‘unheimlich’. I aimed to create pieces that explored the push-pull factor of cinematic horror, and the tropes often explored therein. Most particularly, the feminine form as a juxtaposition to mortality. These pieces were intended to reduce the female nude to a more abstract form, rather than an identifiable individual, and to draw attention the curves and delicacy of the skulls – essentially blurring the line between the traditionally creepy, and the desirable.
